A Curated Collection Of Contemporary Jazz Classics By The Masters Who Defined The Genre.

Jazz Pianist Michael Kocour and his quartet bring the energy and spirit of jazz to life with the music of iconic composers such as Quincy Jones, Benny Golson, Wes Montgomery, McCoy Tyner, Kenny Garrett, and Herbie Hancock. Perfect for jazz enthusiasts and newcomers alike, this concert is a celebration of music that transcends time. Featured artists include- Michael Kocour– piano, Jeff Libman– guitar, Corcoran Holt– bass, and Robby Carrillo– drums.

About the artists…

Mike Kocour
Michael Kocour is a renowned jazz pianist, organist, composer, and Director of Jazz Studies at Arizona State University. He has performed globally with legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Lovano, and Benny Golson, and appeared on NPR’s “Piano Jazz.” With six acclaimed albums and contributions to film soundtracks, Kocour’s artistry is praised for its creativity and technical brilliance.

Jeff Libman
Jeff Libman, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at ASU, is celebrated for his melodic and flowing improvisations. His album Strange Beauty earned critical acclaim, and he actively supports Phoenix’s jazz community as Vice President of The Nash. Recognized as an Arts Hero in 2018, Libman regularly performs with Arizona’s finest musicians.

Corcoran Holt
Corcoran Holt, a bassist rooted in Washington, DC, has performed with jazz legends worldwide, including the Kenny Garrett Quintet. A graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory and Queens College, Holt has graced iconic venues like The Blue Note and Village Vanguard. He also serves as a music therapist in Harlem and leads his own group.

Robby Carrillo
Phoenix-based drummer and educator Robby Carrillo has been active in jazz since age 16. An ASU graduate, he’s performed with Joe Lovano and opened for Benny Golson. Carrillo teaches at Mesa Community College and Arizona Christian University while performing and recording across the Phoenix jazz scene.

House of Refuge Sunnyslope

House of Refuge Sunnyslope (HRS) is a Christian housing program serving the homeless, unemployed, and recently sober of Phoenix. They provide shelter, food, employment skills, and spiritual transformation through our programs for men, women, and single mothers with children. For this event, doors open at 5pm, followed by the performance beginning at 6pm. Choose from a fine selection of wine and craft beers before the show. Light snack options will also be available for purchase at the bar. No food or drink will be permitted inside of Ravenscroft Hall.
