Andy Milne Trio

November 15 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Andy Milne Trio

Join us for an unforgettable evening with two-time JUNO Award-winning pianist and composer Andy Milne, as he brings his critically acclaimed trio Unison—featuring John Hébert on bass and Clarence Penn on drums to the stage. Known for redefining the intimacy of the piano trio, Unison weaves together rich harmonic textures and deep rhythmic interplay, creating a sound that is both sophisticated and emotionally resonant.

“The emotionally complex album that came out of that session owes much to the single-minded focus of the three players as they moved fluently through Milne’s dynamic compositions.”
DownBeat Magazine

Formed in 2017, the trio’s debut album The reMission (Sunnyside Records, 2020) was born from Milne’s recovery from cancer and earned the 2021 JUNO Award for Jazz Album of the Year: Group. Hailed by DownBeat Magazine as “emotionally complex” and intensely focused, the album cemented the group’s status as a powerful voice in contemporary jazz.

Their latest release, Time Will Tell (2024), expands the trio’s sonic palette with guest artists Ingrid Laubrock (tenor saxophone) and Yoko Reikano Kimura (koto). Drawing on themes of heritage and identity, the project reflects Milne’s personal reconnection with his birth family and further showcases his strength as a musical storyteller.

A former student of Oscar Peterson and a creative force in New York’s jazz community, Milne has collaborated with leading artists such as Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, Ravi Coltrane, and William Shatner, with compositions spanning jazz, classical, and film/TV scores. Both Hébert and Penn are world-class collaborators in their own right, each bringing decades of experience and expressive depth to the ensemble.

With Unison, Milne explores the full spectrum of the piano trio—balancing nuance with groove, complexity with warmth, and improvisation with emotional clarity. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of today’s most innovative jazz trios live in concert.
