Andy Milne & Unison

November 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Andy Milne & Unison

Join us for an unforgettable evening with two-time JUNO Award-winning pianist and composer Andy Milne, as he brings his critically acclaimed trio Unison—featuring John Hébert on bass and Kush Abadey on drums to the stage. Known for redefining the intimacy of the piano trio, Unison weaves together rich harmonic textures and deep rhythmic interplay, creating a sound that is both sophisticated and emotionally resonant.

“The emotionally complex album that came out of that session owes much to the single-minded focus of the three players as they moved fluently through Milne’s dynamic compositions.”
DownBeat Magazine

For more than 30 years, two-time JUNO Award-winning pianist and composer Andy Milne has redefined versatility, collaborating across dance, film, theater, visual arts, and music of every genre. With Unison, Milne returns to the intimacy of the piano trio, exploring the intersection of texture and groove with bassist John Hébert and drummer Kush Abadey.

Unison’s acclaimed debut, The reMission (Sunnyside, 2020), won the JUNO Award for Jazz Album of the Year: Group, praised by DownBeat as “emotionally complex” and intensely focused. Their latest release, Time Will Tell (2024), nominated for a 2025 JUNO and featured on numerous “Best of 2024” lists, expands the trio’s sonic palette while reflecting Milne’s artistry as a storyteller.

A former student of Oscar Peterson and longtime creative force in New York’s jazz community, Milne has collaborated with icons including Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, Ralph Alessi, Ravi Coltrane, and William Shatner. He has released 12 recordings as leader or co-leader, composed for orchestras and chamber ensembles, and scored for Emmy-winning director Michèle Stephenson and multiple films by Shatner. Currently a Yamaha Artist and professor at the University of Michigan, Milne continues to bridge tradition and innovation.

Joining him are two world-class collaborators: John Hébert, a New Orleans-born bassist hailed for his work with Fred Hersch, Andrew Hill, Lee Konitz, and Paul Bley, and named multiple times as a DownBeat “Rising Star Acoustic Bassist”; and Kush Abadey, a dynamic drummer who began touring with Wallace Roney at age 16 and has since performed with Ravi Coltrane, Chris Potter, Cécile McLorin Salvant, and Wynton Marsalis.

Together, Andy Milne & Unison embody the full spectrum of the piano trio—balancing nuance with groove, complexity with warmth, and improvisation with emotional clarity.
