Friday, March 3rd, at 7:00pm, Jazzbird welcomes the Ben Hedquist Quartet. Featured artists include Ben Hedquist–Bass, Mike Kocour-Piano, Jeff Libman-Guitar, Ryan Anthony-Drums.
Bassist and composer, Ben Hedquist has become one of the Valley’s most in-demand bassists. He performs frequently with Phoenix-based musicians such as Michael Kocour, Jeff Libman, Eric Rasmussen, Keith Kelly, Adam Roberts, and Dom Moio. He has also performed with a growing number of jazz notables, including Joe Locke, Peter Bernstein, George Garzone, Miguel Zenon, Glenn Zaleski, John Hollenbeck, Chris Cheek, George Colligan, Ben Wendel, and Lewis Nash.
As an educator, Hedquist works with students of all ages. He has taught at the Phoenix Conservatory of Music, he has taught adjunct at Scottsdale and Paradise Valley Community Colleges, has served as the Education Program Coordinator at The Nash, and Professor of Jazz Bass at Arizona State University. He is active in presenting educational performances throughout the Valley including the Arizona Musicfest Reimagined Series and The MIM’s Artist Residency Performances. Ben is currently the Director of Jazz and Popular Music Studies at Glendale Community College.
