Bassist, pianist, and composer David Friesen is a visionary force in modern jazz whose music blends depth, spirituality, and technical mastery. A fixture of the Pacific Northwest jazz scene since the late 1960s, Friesen’s sound draws from jazz, folk, classical, and world traditions—marked by warmth, lyricism, and fearless creativity. Over his prolific career, he has collaborated with legends such as Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, Mal Waldron, and Denny Zeitlin, while releasing an expansive catalog ranging from intimate solo works to dynamic trio and duo projects. Born in Tacoma and raised in Seattle, Friesen began his musical journey on accordion and guitar before discovering the bass while stationed in Europe with the U.S. Army, where he first performed alongside jazz greats. Today, he continues to inspire audiences worldwide with music rooted in integrity, compassion, and a deep connection to the human spirit.
