Friday, April 12th, at 7:00pm, Jazzbird welcomes the Holly Pyle Quartet. Featured artists include Holly Pyle– Vocals, Raul Yañez– Piano, Mario Mendivil– Bass, and Stephen Avalos, Drums.
Los Angeles-based Holly Pyle is a compulsively detail-oriented vocalist and songwriter. Her career in music thus far has been marked by innovative approaches to vocal loop arranging, intense musical vulnerability, and barrier-pushing vocal melodies in her songwriting projects. With a voice that sounds like “The smooth richness of Billie Holiday mixed with beautiful fluttering tones of Merrill Garbus” decalred by Phoenix New Times, her live shows are nothing short of fascinating.
Holly regularly sings jazz across the West Coast and also participates in an Arizona-based folk rock group called Live from Laurel Canyon that travels all over the country. Most recently, Holly has created a large quantity of music-inspired abstract pen art and completed a new original solo alternative pop record under the name Elyp, released in November of last year.
This show will include a collection of favorite jazz standards, rearranged contemporary selections and a few of Holly Pyle’s original compositions, performed alongside local legends Raul Yañez (piano), Mario Mendivil (bass) and Stephen Avalos (drums). Join us for a wonderful night!
