Friday, November 1st, at 7:00pm, Jazzbird welcomes Lewis Nash Gen-3 Trio! Featured artists include Lewis Nash– Drums, Charles Lewis– Piano, and Corcoran Holt– Bass.
Renowned drummer Lewis Nash, known for his debut recording “Rhythm Is My Business” in 1989, is universally recognized as one of the greatest drummers in jazz history. With a career spanning 4 decades, over 500 recordings to his name, including 10 Grammy winners, Nash holds the unique distinction of contributing to Grammy-winning albums in both vocal and instrumental jazz categories in separate years.
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Nash gained international recognition in Betty Carter’s trio and went on to collaborate with jazz legends such as Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, and McCoy Tyner. In 2012, The Nash, a jazz education center in Phoenix, was established in his honor, becoming a prominent venue in the city’s jazz scene. Nash’s educational expertise is as in demand as his drumming skills, with roles at The Juilliard School and Arizona State University, where he holds the Bob and Gretchen Ravenscroft Professor of Practice in Jazz title.
Nash’s brand new Gen-3 Trio, kicking off November’s Jazzbird Nights, aptly reflects its name by showcasing three generations of talented jazz musicians in a single performance.
