RAVENSCROFT JAZZ SERIES – Diego Figueiredo & Stanley Jordan
Grammy nominated guitarist Diego Figueiredo makes new fans every time he takes the stage by applying his supercharged emotion to his jazz-bossa nova-classical music. Audiences leave feeling joyful. That is not to relegate Stanley Jordan to second fiddle – or, in the case of this incredible Ravenscroft concert, second guitar. Jordan, with his imagination, versatility and maverick daring, creates bold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations of jazz and ultramodern works. Together, they will to take the audience on a breathtaking journey into the unexpected.
Figueiredo, born in Brazil, has performed in more than 60 countries, has released 28 CDs and is two-time winner of the Montreux Jazz Competition. He has collaborated and performed with Ken Peplowski, Lewis Nash, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton and Bill Cunliffe, among others. His superb technique, timing and imagination have made him one of the hottest international names.
Jordan, who also has performed in more than 60 countries, is known for his special “touch technique” on the fretboard, an advanced form of two-handed tapping that produces fluid, multi-layered textures that raise the bar for excellence. He has earned four Grammy nominations. A classically trained pianist, he switched to guitar as a teenager wanting greater freedom in voicing chords, and applying piano principles on guitar to achieve it. His aptly titled Magic Touch was atop Billboard’s jazz chart for a record-breaking 51 weeks and sold more than 500,000 copies. Jordan now lives in Sedona and is working toward a Master’s in Music Therapy at ASU. He does outreach in schools and hospitals wherever he tours
