VJC ALUMNI BAND+: CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Join us for a magical Christmas Concert as Valley Jazz Cooperative program alums combine forces with a handful of leading area jazz artists for the first time! The newly-formed VJC Alumni Band+ will perform big band arrangements of holiday classics, infusing Ravenscroft Hall with the Spirit of Christmas.

Led by program director Russell Schmidt, the VJC Alumni Band+ features talented young musicians who were previously members of the VJC during their high school years. This exceptionally gifted alumni group reconvenes periodically, allowing these creative artists to reconnect and make music once more.

An exciting aspect of this event is the presence of outstanding professionals from our Phoenix jazz scene, performing side by side with the alums. The pros to be featured will include Paul Brewer (baritone saxophone), Denny Monce (trumpet), Michael Lake (alto trombone), Benjamin Hedquist (bass), and Ryan Anthony (drum set).

The Christmas Concert will include brand-new big band arrangements of many holiday-themed classics. The evening will also feature one or two combo selections, highlighting the formidable improvisation skills of the band members.

The Valley Jazz Cooperative was founded in 2016 and is an educational outreach of MSW Ministries. Instruction is focused on expanding the creativity of VJC members through developing improvisation skills and learning the language of jazz. The main VJC program runs annually between December and May and is offered free of charge to eligible, committed, passionate music students (grades 8-12). The Alumni Band program began in 2022.

Lobby doors open at 6:00 pm and Ravenscroft Hall doors open at 6:30 pm. Choose from a fine selection of wine and craft beers before the show. No food or drink is permitted inside Ravenscroft Hall. Please note that parking is free and abundant on-site at Ravenscroft.
