There are moments when an opportunity is so tremendous that it must be seized. Such a moment for jazz music fans is Oct. 16, 2021, when the grandmaster of jazz piano, Kenny Barron, and his trio come to Ravenscroft as Lakeshore Music debuts in its new home.
Barron, 77, an American Jazz Hall of Fame member, has appeared on hundreds of recordings, been nominated for nine Grammys and is considered among the most influential mainstream jazz pianists of his time. He has an unmatched ability to mesmerize audiences with his elegant playing, sensitive melodies and infectious rhythms. The Los Angeles Times named him among the top jazz pianists in the world and Jazz Weekly calls him the most lyrical piano player of our time.
Among the Philadelphia native Barron’s first gigs was as pianist with the Dizzy Gillespie quartet. During that time, Barron developed an appreciation for Latin and Caribbean rhythms. Barron later worked with Yusef Lateef, an influence on Barron’s improvisation art. Barron also recorded several albums with legendary tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, including Grammy nominated “People Time.”
