Valley Jazz Cooperative Featured on Local News!

“The Valley Jazz Cooperative is a free education where students can grow their creativity by expanding their skills in jazz and specifically as improvisers.” – Russell Schmidt

We’re proud to share that the Valley Jazz Cooperative (VJC)—the student jazz education program based at Ravenscroft—was recently highlighted on a local news segment in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month.

Led by Director Russell Schmidt, the VJC offers free, high-quality jazz education to students in grades 8–12. Through traditional big band setups and small ensembles, students explore improvisation, creativity, and collaboration in a safe, encouraging environment.

As part of our nonprofit mission, the Valley Jazz Cooperative plays a vital role in keeping jazz alive for the next generation—giving young musicians a chance to perform in a professional setting and connect deeply with this uniquely expressive art form.

Learn more about the program at valleyjazz.org and discover how Ravenscroft continues to inspire and invest in the future of jazz.
