Intersection is a unique offering in the 2022/23 Chamber @ Ravenscroft series, a crossover event featuring both jazz and classical selections. In addition to a major chamber work by Ravel, the program will include selections that blend jazz and classical approaches, as the string quartet and piano trio intersect in exciting and surprising ways.
Intersection will be performed without an intermission. Following the performance, there will be a wine & cheese reception (approx. 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.) Snacks will be complimentary for concert attendees; wine will be available for separate purchase at the Jazzbird bar.
Additionally, pianist Russell Schmidt will be leading a combo of Valley Jazz Cooperative students and alums in performance on the Jazzbird stage, providing great atmosphere for the “after party”.
About the artists…Dian D’Avonzo is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Phoenix Symphony and has performed with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra and the Utah Opera Festival. Tessa Gotman Bock is also a member of the Phoenix Symphony violin section and previously served as the Concertmaster of the Scottsdale Arts Orchestra. Violist Nancy Buck is Co-Artistic Director of the Chamber @ Ravenscroft series and recently soloed with the West Valley Symphony in a performance of the Walton Viola Concerto. Cellist Mike D’Avonzo has been a member of the Phoenix Symphony for more than three decades and is also an acclaimed bowmaker whose bows are played by musicians across the country. This outstanding quartet is joined by local jazz greats Russell Schmidt (piano), Chris Finet (bass), and Rob Moore (drums).
