RAVENSCROFT CONCERT SERIES – Anthony Fung
“This is rich, colorful, and at times transportive music that attests to Fung’s compositional strengths.”- MakingaScene.org
Join us on Saturday, October 28th at 7:30pm for the Anthony Fung Quartet as they celebrate the release of his new album, “FO(U)RTH”.
Anthony Fung, the accomplished drummer, composer, producer, and bandleader hailing from Richmond Hill, Canada, is a true musical luminary. From the age of ten, he has showcased his exceptional talent on the drums, and today, he leads a remarkable quartet in Los Angeles alongside Grammy-nominated saxophonist Alex Hahn, bassist Luca Alemanno, and pianist Michael Ragonese. Fung’s journey through prestigious institutions like the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance and the Berklee College of Music under the guidance of musical legends like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter speaks volumes about his musicianship. His extensive list of performances alongside luminaries underscores his remarkable accomplishments in the world of jazz.
Fung’s outstanding work extends beyond the stage. His critically acclaimed albums, including “Chronicles,” “Flashpoint,” and “What Does it Mean to be Free?,” showcase his prowess as a bandleader and composer. Notably, his composition work has been featured in documentaries and television specials, including “The Last Tourist” on Apple TV and Craig Robinson’s Hulu special “Your Attention Please.”
Anthony Fung’s newest album “FO(U)RTH” is a dazzling testament to jazz’s evolution. Paying tribute to his mentor Ralph Peterson, Fung collaborates with saxophonist Mark Turner to create a fresh blend of contemporary composition and improvisation. This snapshot in time captures the essence of jazz’s spirit and will be celebrated and highlighted during this performance in this special album release concert. As Fung takes the stage as a headliner in Ravenscroft Hall, it’s an opportunity to witness his brilliance, a true virtuoso who continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of music.
