CHAMBER @ RAVENSCROFT: Aria

Expanding the color palette, level of communication, and depth of emotional range, Aria brings the human voice to the Chamber @ Ravenscroft series for the first time. The performance will showcase guest vocalist Stephanie Weiss on chamber works by Loeffler, Porter, and more, in a program that includes repertoire from both classical and popular music styles.

About the artists… Stephanie Weiss, mezzo-soprano, is a former winner of the American Berlin Opera Foundation Competition, has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic (under the baton of Pierre Boulez) and in Carnegie Hall with the Opera Orchestra of New York. She currently serves on the Arizona State University School of Music, Dance, and Theatre faculty as a Professor of Voice. Violist Nancy Buck has performed chamber music in prominent venues across the United States, and in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and New Zealand. She currently serves as Co-Artistic Director of the Chamber @ Ravenscroft series. Cellist Ryan Murphy has soloed with the Cleveland Orchestra and Detroit Symphony and has performed with the Canton Symphony, Juilliard Centennial Orchestra, National Philharmonic, and San Antonio Symphony. Andrew Campbell is currently the Director of the Collaborative Piano Program at ASU and leads summer instruction in collaborative piano at Rocky Ridge Music Festival (Estes Park, CO). In addition to his various appearances as a jazz pianist, Russell Schmidt has served as a guest keyboardist with more than 30 orchestras across North America, including the National Symphony Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his various appearances as a jazz pianist, Russell Schmidt has served as a guest keyboardist with more than 30 orchestras across North America, including the National Symphony Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Bassist Ben Hedquist has performed with an impressive list of jazz notables, including Peter Bernstein, John Clayton, George Garzone, John Hollenbeck, Joe Lovano, Harold Maybern, Lewis Nash, and Glenn Zaleski. A creative and versatile drummer, Ryan Anthony has worked with such esteemed jazz artists as Wayne Bergeron, Nazim Rashid, and Joey Sellers, and continues to perform with area bands including Running From Bears and Union32.

For this Chamber @ Ravenscroft event, lobby doors open at 5:30pm, followed by the performance at 7 pm. Choose from a fine selection of wine and craft beers before the show or during intermission. Light refreshments will be available at the bar for purchase. Note that no food or drink is permitted inside Ravenscroft Hall.
