Last season’s most popular Chamber @ Ravenscroft event, Intersection, is back! But the sequel to our unique “jazz meets classical“ concert has a fresh twist: Along with the string quartet and jazz piano trio, special guest artist Lucas Pino is joining the mix. As was the case last year, you can expect the string quartet and jazz combo to intersect in exciting and surprising ways. Selections on the program will include pieces by Chick Corea, Cole Porter, and more.

About the artists…

Originally from Phoenix, saxophonist Lucas Pino has performed with such jazz luminaries as Carl Allen, Dave Brubeck, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, Benny Green Jimmy Heath, and Christian McBride and serves as Co-Artistic Director of the Brubeck Jazz Summit. Violinist Jennifer Choi has performed worldwide in venues such as the Library of Congress in Washington D. C., the RAI National Radio in Rome, Hong Kong National Radio, and the Mozartsalle in Vienna since giving her debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall. Timothy Kantor is a Professor of Violin at the University of Arizona and has performed chamber works with many of today’s leading musicians, including Joshua Bell, Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Atar Arad, and the Pacifica Quartet. Violist Nancy Buck is Co-Artistic Director of the Chamber @ Ravenscroft series and recently soloed with the West Valley Symphony in a performance of the Walton Viola Concerto. Cellist Ryan Murphy has soloed with the Cleveland Orchestra and Detroit Symphony and has performed with the Canton Symphony, Juilliard Centennial Orchestra, National Philharmonic, and San Antonio Symphony. Pianist/composer Russell Schmidt has performed with such celebrated performers as Carl Allen, Eddie Daniels, Joe Lovano, Gerry Mulligan, Arturo Sandoval, and Clark Terry, and written for artists as varied as saxophonists Bob Berg and Michael Brecker, the Ying Quartet, and the chamber music group Rhythm & Brass. While maintaining an active schedule as an orchestral musician, bassist Chris Finet has also performed over the years with such jazz legends as Jimmy Cobb, Benito Gonzales, Dave Grusin, Roy Hargrove, Dave Liebman, Flora Purim, and Doc Severinsen. In addition to leading his own combos, drummer Rob Moore performs with many first-call Arizona musicians and groups, most notably with the Bob Ravenscroft Trio, with which he has recorded numerous albums.

Before the concert, please join us in Jazzbird for an hour of solo piano and choose from a fine selection of wine, local craft beers, and catered dinner options available for purchase. Doors open for dining, bar service, and live music at 5:30 pm.
