JAZZBIRD NIGHTS: Dr. Jesse McGuire

March 17, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Friday, March 17th, at 7:00pm, Jazzbird welcomes Dr. Jesse McGuire. Featured artists include Dr. Jesse McGuire–Trumpet, Flugelhorn, vocals, Adam Clark-Drums, Mike King-Bass, Arsen Nalbandian-Piano.

Headliner Dr. Jesse McGuire is an Emmy award winning trumpet player and star vocalist. He held the position of “Lead Trumpet” in the world’s most prestigious jazz big band, “The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra” in New York City, led by Wynton Marsalis. Dr. McGuire has traveled all over the world and played with many talented artists such as Tower of Power, Arturo Sandoval, Pat Boone, James Brown, Jeffery Osborne, Paul Simon, and Stevie Wonder, among many others. He has played the Star-Spangled Banner on the trumpet in front of three U.S. presidents and performed at plenty of major sporting events, such as the Daytona 500. Because of his incredible talent and wide array of experience in front of large audiences, his rendition of the national anthem on the trumpet has become the most famous in the world. He is passionate about performing classic jazz standards, through his multi-instrumentalist talents on trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals.

Pianist Arsen Nalbandian is a self-taught jazz pianist, composer/arranger, and educator in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Over the past 7 years, Arsen has dedicated his life towards honing his craft in the jazz idiom, with his primary influences stemming from the music of Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson. Notable members that he has worked with in the Arizona jazz community include musicians such as Mike Kocour, Andrew Gross, Clark Gibson, Dennis Rowland, Eric Rasmussen, Ben Hedquist, and Dwight Kilian. During this time, he has performed all throughout the valley at premier venues such as The Nash, Sacred Grounds, Crescent Ballroom, Pepsi Amphitheater, and the Musical Instrument Museum.

Percussionist Adam Clark started playing the drums at age 11 while living in Frankfurt, Germany. He has been a bandleader consistently for 25 years, and a professional drummer since 1995. Adam has worked with popular artists Lenny Castro, Jimmy Vivino, actor/voice artist Patrick Warburton, Rachel Flowers, Gospel legend Andrew Gouche and Jazz legends, such as David “Fathead” Newman, Stanley Jordan, Dennis Rowland, Papa John DeFrancesco, and accordion master, Frank Morocco. Adam endorses DREAM cymbals and gongs, and he has been heard opening up for musical legends Alice Cooper, Joey DeFrancesco, Vince Neil, Angelique Kidjo, and Blues Traveler. Adam Clark was blessed to grow up as an Army brat in a musical family. His father (a career Army band director), started Adam on drum lessons with members of the 3rd Armored Division Spearhead Band. His Mom (a pianist, and singer with perfect pitch), taught him how to sing as a toddler, and he took piano lessons as a young child. Adam went to school for jazz performance at Mesa Community College, and he won a scholarship at Arizona State University.

Enjoy some great jazz and choose from a fine selection of wine, craft beers, and catered dinner options for purchase. Doors open at 6:00 pm; $10 cover charge at the door, reservations are not required.
