Friday, October 21st, at 7:00pm, Jazzbird lounge welcomes Phoenix Women Jazz Collective. Featuring artists Mary Petrich-Saxophones, Claudia Bloom-Piano, Holy Channell-Drums, Bailey Zick-Bass.
Headliner Mary Petrich is a saxophonist and educator who has an abiding love for freestyle improvisation. Her desire to push the boundaries has led to several projects and collaborations. When she’s not on stage, she is inspired to teach the future of jazz. Mary currently co-teaches and directs Phoenix Jazz Girls Rising (PJGR) alongside pianist and educator Claudia Bloom.
The Phoenix Women Jazz Collective is drawn from among the Valley’s creative jazz players, composers, and arrangers. They are dedicated to researching and performing compositions by women. In this outing they will be performing works by famous as well as lesser-known female composers, including such giants as Mary Lou Williams, Carla Bley, Renee Rosnes, and Roxy Coss.
