Jazzbird Nights: Melanie Chryshelle and The Igniters Ft. Lewis Nash

March 1 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Friday, March 1st at 7:00 pm, Ravenscroft welcomes the Valley’s very own Melanie Chryshelle and The Igniters, featuring Lewis Nash to the Jazzbird Stage! Featured artists include Melanie Chryshelle–  Vocals, Lewis Nash– Drums, Benjamin Cortez– Piano, and Bailey Zick– Bass.

Vocalist Melanie Chryshelle is prepared to delight, excite and ignite her audience!  Chryshelle will perform a wide-ranging repertoire from classic jazz standards to songs with a more contemporary r&b and pop flavor.  Her vocal style has been influenced by Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Randy Crawford, Roberta Flack, Natalie Cole and Minnie Riperton.  Melanie believes that her true calling is to uplift, motivate and inspire others, and she is excited to be able to do so through the vehicle of songs and the stories they tell.

Renowned drummer Lewis Nash, known for his debut recording “Rhythm Is My Business” in 1989, is universally recognized as one of the greatest drummers in jazz history. With a career spanning 4 decades, over 500 recordings to his name, including 10 Grammy winners, Nash holds the unique distinction of contributing to Grammy-winning albums in both vocal and instrumental jazz categories in separate years.

Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Nash gained international recognition in Betty Carter’s trio and went on to collaborate with jazz legends such as Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, and McCoy Tyner. In 2012, The Nash, a jazz education center in Phoenix, was established in his honor, becoming a prominent venue in the city’s jazz scene. Nash’s educational expertise is as in demand as his drumming skills, with roles at The Juilliard School and Arizona State University, where he holds the Bob and Gretchen Ravenscroft Professor of Practice in Jazz title. Don’t miss the rhythmic mastery of the Melanie Chryshelle and The Igniters featuring Lewis Nash—a true icon in the world of jazz on March 1st.
