Friday, March 22nd at 7:00 pm, Ravenscroft welcomes The Adams Quartet to the Jazzbird Stage! Featured artists include Nicki Adams– Piano, Patrick Adams– Trumpet, Eddy Khaimovich– Bass, and Evan Hyde– Drums.
The Adams quartet is a New York-based collaboration between pianist Nicki Adams, trumpeter Patrick Adams, bassist Eddy Khaimovich and drummer Evan Hyde. Formed in 2023, the quartet expanded on an existing duo between brothers Nicki and Patrick. Nicki and Patrick have worked together their whole lives, but recorded their first album together in 2021 which was released on Sunnyside records to critical acclaim. Maruizio Zerbo (All About Jazz) wrote of the record, “with this record, the two New York musicians demonstrate they are getting out of the cage (now in fashion) of the canonical jazz reinterpretation, going beyond the limits of diligent work and respect for tradition. They are undoubtably personalities of great musical depth, destined to keep themselves out of convention in force.”
While retaining the intricate and sometimes virtuosic arrangements developed in their duo, the quartet emphasizes swing as well as Nicki and Patrick’s originals. Firmly rooted in a post bop/hard bop core, the quartet strives to merge the works of creative geniuses without the confines of stylistic rigidity, echoing Ellington’s sentiment that the only two kinds of music are “good music and the other kind.”
Each member of the quartet has a rich musical background. On piano, Nicki is a Steeplechase recording artist who has released six albums as a leader and recorded and performed with the likes of Francesco Mela, Corey Wilcox and Kassa Overall. Trumpeter, Patrick has performed throughout the United States, Canada, China and the West Indies. He has played and recorded with Freda Payne, Miguel Zenon, Robin Eubanks and Bobby LaVelle. On bass, Eddy has performed at major concert venues around the world, such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Blue Note, Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Shanghai Opera House, in a variety of genres with leading artists, including Gloria Estefan, Roy Hargrove, Paquito D’Rivera, James Moody, Fred Hersch, Itzhak Perelman and Zubin Mehta. Drummer, Evan has collaborated with artists including George Coleman, Freddy Cole, Russell Malone, Helen Sung, Stanley Jordan, Shelly Berg, Kenny Barron, Brian Lynch, Ira Sullivan, and Houston Person.
