JAZZBIRD NIGHTS: David Ambrosio Group Ft. Donny McCaslin

Friday, January 26th at 7:00 pm, Ravenscroft welcomes the David Ambrosio Group Featuring Donny McCaslin to the Jazzbird stage! Featured artists include Donny McCaslin– Saxophone, Jason Palmer– Trumpet, Bruce Barth– Piano, David Ambrosio– Bass, and Victor Lewis– Drums.

Embark on a sonic journey through the annals of jazz history as New York bassist David Ambrosio unveils his group, also known as “Civil Disobedience,” a project meticulously crafted to showcase the compositions of progressive jazz maestros from the late 60s Blue Note Era. Ambrosio’s musical tapestry pays homage to luminaries such as Bobby Hutcherson, Jackie McLean, Stanley Cowell, Harold Land, Joe Chambers, Duke Pearson, and James Spaulding.

In a reflection of an era marked by social upheaval and civil unrest, the compositions that form the core of this project lay dormant for decades, unheard and unappreciated at the time of their creation. Fast forward fifty years, and we find ourselves in America at a crossroads, witnessing significant parallels in social movements reminiscent of that transformative era. It is against this backdrop that the once-overlooked music of the late 60s Blue Note Era gains a newfound relevance.

Donny McCaslin, who will be performing as a headliner in Ravenscroft Hall later this year on April 13th, will be playing the saxophone in the band for this evening as well!
