ABOUT THE ARTIST
The Tjader Project is led by acclaimed percussionist Joe Garcia, whose career spans more than three decades performing jazz, Latin jazz, Brazilian music, rock, and more. Of Cuban descent and raised in Miami, Garcia developed his musical voice through the influence of legends such as Mongo Santamaria, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Roy Haynes. A highly sought-after “first-call” musician, he has performed with artists including B.B. King, The Beach Boys, Gladys Knight, and Sergio Mendes, earning a reputation for his versatility, artistry, and deep connection to Latin music traditions.
Joining the group is special guest Raúl Yáñez, one of the Southwest’s most respected jazz pianists, known for his expressive playing and mastery of both jazz and Latin styles. Together, Garcia and Yáñez bring the music of Cal Tjader to life, celebrating the legendary vibraphonist who helped revolutionize Latin Jazz. Audiences will enjoy an evening of classic compositions, infectious Afro-Cuban rhythms, and inspired improvisation that honors Tjader’s enduring legacy.
