ABOUT THE ARTIST

The Mercer Patterson Quintet is a dynamic ensemble of young, forward-thinking musicians dedicated to redefining the modern jazz experience. Formed during their freshman year at the University of Michigan, the group quickly developed a distinctive sound rooted in intricate rhythms, lyrical melodies, and influences from contemporary, classical, and jazz musical traditions.

Under the mentorship of jazz luminaries such as Terrell Stafford, Robert Hurst, Brian Lynch, Andy Milne, Ellen Rowe, Caroline Davis, and Chuck Bergeron, the quintet has honed a sophisticated musical voice that is both technically masterful and emotionally compelling. Their collaborative approach and compositional depth have earned them performances at major venues and festivals across the U.S., including the Detroit Jazz Festival, the Shapeshifter Lab in Brooklyn, Mr. Tipples in San Francisco, Ravenscroft in Arizona, and Aspen-Snowmass Jazz in Colorado.
