ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mike Collins is a pianist, composer, and arranger recognized for his modern approach to jazz piano and his deeply melodic compositional style. Originally from Arizona, Collins studied at the Thornton School of Music at USC, where he trained with acclaimed jazz pianists Shelly Berg and Russ Ferrante and studied composition with noted Los Angeles jazz educators. He also developed his musical foundation through mentorships with respected Arizona jazz figures, helping shape the distinctive voice that now defines his work.
In addition to leading the Mike Collins Trio, Collins has earned recognition as an award-winning composer and arranger. His big band composition “Sketch Artist” received honorable mention in the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards, and his arrangement work has appeared on Grammy-nominated recordings, including Arturo O’Farrill’s 40 Acres and a Burro. Through projects with the Superstition Jazz Orchestra and his own trio, Collins continues to build a reputation for inventive arrangements, expressive piano work, and a forward-thinking vision of contemporary jazz.
