ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sarah Hanahan is a New York–based alto saxophonist recognized as one of the rising voices in contemporary jazz. Originally from Massachusetts, she began playing saxophone at the age of eight and later studied at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School before earning her master’s degree from The Juilliard School. Influenced heavily by jazz legend Jackie McLean, Hanahan has developed a distinctive sound that combines lyrical sensitivity with fearless intensity.

Over the past several years, Hanahan has built an impressive reputation performing with leading artists and ensembles including the Mingus Big Band, Joe Farnsworth, and Peter Martin. Her debut album Among Giants received widespread acclaim, including recognition in DownBeat and Jazz Night in America, helping establish her as one of the most exciting young saxophonists on today’s jazz scene. Known for her commanding stage presence and deeply expressive playing, Hanahan continues to gain national attention as both a performer and composer.
