Celebrate the powerful legacy of jazz icon Charles Mingus with Mingus Dynasty, the acclaimed ensemble founded by Sue Mingus following his death in 1979 to ensure his extraordinary body of work would continue to be heard, explored, and celebrated.

Though Mingus was one of jazz’s most iconic and trailblazing bassists, he considered himself first and foremost a composer, leaving behind more than 300 compositions that helped reshape the language of modern jazz. Sue Mingus formed Mingus Dynasty in collaboration with musicians who had performed alongside him, beginning a musical mission that continues more than four decades later. Today, Mingus Dynasty brings that legacy to life with a new generation of world-class musicians adding their own voices to Mingus’ bold and unmistakable sound. Blending hard bop, blues, gospel, swing, and avant-garde influences, the ensemble combines fearless improvisation, rich musical personalities, and arrangements shaped by musicians with decades of experience performing the Mingus repertoire.
