WHAT TO EXPECT
A pair of Valley Jazz Cooperative student ensembles share the stage for the opening VJC concert of the year. The VJC Winter Performance will showcase Cerulean (a combo) and Indigo (a big band) on the Ravenscroft Hall stage. VJC Founder Russell Schmidt leads both groups in a matinee event that marks the launch of the Valley Jazz Cooperative’s 10th Anniversary Season.
VJC concerts commonly feature music from historically-significant jazz artists, including Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Bill Holman, Thad Jones, Sonny Rollins, and Wayne Shorter. This year’s Winter Performance will also feature a guest appearance by saxophonist Eric Rasmussen (a leading artist-teacher in our jazz community), performing alongside VJC students.
ABOUT THE VJC
The Valley Jazz Cooperative was founded in 2016 as an educational outreach of MSW Ministries. Through its various performing ensembles, supported by guest artist clinics and instructional workshops, the VJC creates a nurturing environment for individuals to explore and develop their potential as creative beings through the medium of jazz and the art of improvisation. The program is offered free of charge to eligible, committed, passionate music students (grades 8-12). Learn more at ValleyJazz.org
